I have always had a love of flavours, tastes and smells. I have my mum to thank for that. Growing up, mealtimes were the highlight of the day. One of my other passions quickly became languages, which I studied at school and then university. This enabled me to travel and savour the cuisine of other countries and regions (mainly France, Spain and South America), and pretend that I was studying. Wine frequently featured during these trips, and quickly became my new passion.
In 2002 I moved to Chile and Argentina, where I worked as a wine export manager for over three years. Back on UK soil since 2006, I have worked in many aspects of the trade, from managing, buying and consulting for wine bars and restaurants to importing and wholesaling wines.
In 2017, after many years of study and toil, I passed the Master of Wine examinations – a career highlight for sure.
I work as a freelance wine consultant and writer, and am a regular contributor to consumer and trade magazines, including Decanter Magazine, Decanter.com, Harpers Wine and Spirit and Drinks International. I also have experience as a radio broadcaster on the BBC – working for many years on a regular show for BBC Oxford, focussing on wine and food matching. I have appeared on both television and radio in the UK, Chile and the USA as a wine expert. I am a regular judge at The Decanter World Wine Awards and The International Wine Challenge, and have also judged at competitions in Chile and Argentina. I regularly host tastings, for private individuals and corporates alike.
Outside of wine, I love cooking, music, rugby, skiing, running and being dad to two awesome girls.
I live in Henley-on-Thames (35 miles from London).
